A five member’s team of Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS), led by its Executive Director Ms. Rokeya Kabir, has met the Chief Election Commission (CEC) on 13 April, 2015. The BNPS representative team has submitted a memorandum to CEC to ensure an environment free from all types of fear and violence so that women, marginalized and poor people can cast their votes freely, and the candidates can run their campaign for the upcoming City Corporation Election which is going to be held on April 28, 2015 at Dhaka (North and South) and Chittagong megacity. The team also suggested CEC to take necessary and effective steps to keep the law and order situation stable, and arrange special security measures in the religious minority and poor people habitation areas and also in the attack prone by religious fanatics.

The team also suggested CEC to take crackdown policy against using the religion and religious scripture during the campaign for election; express hate speech against women and equal rights of women; using illegal or black money for election or spend money beyond the rules of election. They demanded to collect and preserve the gender disaggregated data related to the election and increase the number of women in every position of conducting election as well as Presiding Officer and Polling Officer. They also demanded to ensure the “Level playing field” not only for the front line political groups but also for all citizens.

Ms. Afroza Banu, cultural activist and Vice-Chairperson of BNPS; Mr. Kajol Devnath, President of Bangladesh Hindu Bouddha Christian Unity Council; Mr. Numan Ahmed Khan, Executive Director of Institute for Environment and Development (IED) and Ms. Dilara Rekha, Coordinator of BNPS were the other team members.
