A National Dialogue between Women’s Network and Government Institutions to Advance WPS and Gender Sensitive PVE through Effective Implementation of NAP WPS Bangladesh was organized by Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) with the support of UN Women Bangladesh at CIRDAP Conference Hall on 26 July, 2022.
Honorable Minister of State for Women and Children Affairs Ms. Fazilatun Nessa Indira MP was present as the Chief Guest in the dialogue presided by Rokeya Kabir, Executive Director of BNPS. Foreign Secretary (Senior Secretary) Masud Bin Momen of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was present as a Special Guest. UN Women’s Deputy Country Representative Dia Nanda, Deputy High Commissioner of Australian High Commission in Bangladesh, Nardia Simpson were present as guests in the dialogue program. Senior government officials, Academia, Gender Experts, Representatives from Civil Society organizations (CSOs), Women’s Organizations at grassroots and national levels and women’s network, human rights organization, students from Women Peace Cafe, journalists were present in this dialogue.
Speakers said, WPS Agenda is not only a women's issue, it is a humanitarian issue. If women's peace and security is not ensured, every human of a society is affected by that and this also has a great economic cost. If half of the population remains ineffective, no nation can progress. Therefore, they demanded the effective implementation of NAP WPS and also to extend implementation period to ensure an equal, discrimination free, peaceful society.
In November 2019, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Bangladesh, in collaboration with the UN Women Bangladesh country office, enacted the National Action Plan (NAP) on Women, Peace and Security (WPS) 2019-2022 where BNPS fed in grassroots voice through a series of consultative process. It is based on the landmark of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which for the first time emphasized the central role of gender equality in the maintenance of international peace and security.
