Patiya Public Policy Forum organized the public hearings on status and progress of girl's education specially drop out girls’ student and reproductive health problem and expectation of community with local administration, local government officials (health & education) and social services, education and health service providers and Member of Parliament on 25 July 2012 at Patiya Upazila Parishad auditorium at Patiya in Chittagong. Mr. Pankaj Chakroborti, convener of PPPF chaired the event. Honorable Mp Mr. Samshul Haque Chowdhury, Chittagong-11 was the chief guest. In the public hearings Upazila Vice Chairman, representative of Local government, NGO representative, teachers, Secondary and Primary education officer, Thana health officer and UNO Patya were present. Ms. Madina Begum, discuss on the previous activities of Patiya Public Policy Forum. Mr. Sharif Chowhan had given introductory speech. In the public hearings PPPF and the local people arises question about the maternal health problem and girls’ drop out situation from school to the Member of Parliament and government officials.

Improving Adolescent Girl’s and Women’s Access to Public Health Services and Retention of Girl’s in School in Patiya: People’s Expectation and Support from MP’s and National Institutions.
Objective of the public hearing:
- To create active role of government officials and MPs for improving the quality health and maternal services of Patiya.
- To ensure the active role of MPs and local government in policy making for progress of education milieu of girls’ student.
The following issues was shared and discussed during the meeting
1. Situation of sexual and reproductive health services and problems encountered by adolescent girls and women in Patiya
2. Drop out situation of girls from school and problems encountered by adolescent girls and women in Patiya
3. Steps to be taken to improve community access to public services in Patiya .
4. Identify the types and areas of support from MP and national level institutions to address the above-mentioned challenges.
In the questionnaire session PPPF asked about initiative of trained birth attendants, endeavor of another community clinic, crisis and proper supply of water in the community health clinic, establish tube-well, include blood bank in Patiya health complex, appointment for vacant post, frequent transfer of doctor’s of sub-center, sufficient supply of medicine and materials like ECG machine, digital X-ray machine. They also raised the issue of eve teasing that is hindering the advancement of girl’s education.
MP Samsul Haque Chowdhry said that he keeps contact with the staff of health complex regularly and he would visit the health complex regularly. He ordered Dr. Mijanur Rahman, Residential Medical officer of thana health complex to take necessary steps for traditional birth attendant’s training. He also promised the following:
- Works of Sixteen community clinics will be finished in time.
- A deep tube-well for reducing the crisis of water.
- Blood bank within this year.
- He Cancellation of transfer order of Anesthesia doctor.
- He will communicate with health ministry for ECG machine and digital X-ray machine.
- Initiative to install different toilet for boys and girls in schools.
